GS5 and GS7 hand-held glue spreaders used for panel and veneer glue application

Overview

The QVP GS-Series Hand-Held Glue Spreaders are precision roller-based applicators designed to apply a smooth, controlled glue film across panels, veneers, laminations, and edge stock. Each spreader uses an internal containment tank and feed roller system to deliver fast, consistent glue coverage with minimal waste.

These instructions apply to both the GS5 (5.5") and GS7 (7") models.

Compatible Adhesives

  • PVA Wood Glues – Standard yellow and white woodworking glues.
  • VAK-Bond 2000 Powdered Plastic Resin Glue – When properly mixed, VAK-Bond 2000 spreads cleanly and provides a rigid, high-strength bond ideal for veneering and laminating.

Standard sponge or rubber rollers can be used with both adhesive types.

Before You Begin

  • Mix VAK-Bond 2000 thoroughly according to the manufacturer instructions.
  • Stir PVA glues before use to ensure a uniform consistency.
  • Check that the roller spins freely and has no dried glue on its surface.
  • Place the GS5 or GS7 upright on a flat, stable surface before filling.

Filling the Glue Tank

  1. Stand the GS5 or GS7 upright.
  2. Pour glue slowly into the top containment tank.
  3. Do not overfill. Leave room for glue movement as the roller turns.
  4. Allow the roller a few seconds to absorb and draw glue from the tank.

How to Apply Glue

1. Position
Place the hand-held spreader at the starting edge of your panel or substrate.

2. Motion
Use a smooth, controlled forward–back motion. Maintain steady pressure and speed so the roller lays down an even glue film.

3. Appearance of Correct Coverage
The glue layer should be:

  • Even
  • Glossy
  • Continuous from edge to edge
  • Free of puddles and dry streaks

Model Selection

  • GS5 – 5.5" Hand-Held Glue Spreader
Best for small panels, drawer fronts, narrow stock, and curved or irregular veneer parts where control and reduced waste are important.
  • GS7 – 7" Hand-Held Glue Spreader
Best for larger veneer panels, raised panel doors, tabletops, and wide laminations where faster surface coverage is desired.

Cleaning After Use

Always clean the spreader immediately after use, before the glue has a chance to cure.

  • Rinse the roller, tank, and housing with warm water.
  • Turn the roller by hand while rinsing to remove all glue from the surface.
  • Rinse the inside of the tank thoroughly until water runs clear.
  • Dry all parts completely before storing or refilling.

For VAK-Bond 2000 plastic resin glue, cleaning promptly is especially important: once cured, the adhesive becomes rigid and can damage rollers and internal parts.

Storage

  • Store the GS5 or GS7 empty and completely dry.
  • Keep rollers clean to maintain consistent spreading performance.
  • Rinse the tank between different glue types to avoid contamination.

Safety Notes

  • Wear gloves and follow all safety instructions when handling VAK-Bond 2000 (urea-formaldehyde resin glue).
  • Avoid contact with skin and eyes when working with any adhesive.
  • Never leave mixed plastic resin glue inside the spreader. Empty and clean after use.
  • Do not use harsh solvents on sponge or rubber rollers; warm water is generally sufficient when cleaned promptly.
